Special thanks to Sonrise parent Dawne Looney for spending the morning at the Covina Preschool and bringing her special Bubble Sauce!
Dawne spent time showing each student how to blow giant bubbles, set up bubble blowing stations, bubble drawing paint stations, and she gave each student their own bottle of bubbles!
Special thanks to our new second semester Middle School Elective helpers too!
THANK YOU Ms. DAWNE! :)

On Saturday, February 11, 2012 our Sonrise Christian School Cheer Team participated in the Fellowship of Christian Cheerleaders West Coast Championship Competition. Cheerleaders Jordan A., Rachel C., Kaitlyn C., Lauren P., Robin J., and Sophia M. performed a flawless routine in front of a packed stadium.
Sonrise placed an astounding 2nd place in their division. Coach, Caylee Carpenter is so proud of the girls. Their hard work paid off and God’s blessing and favor were with them throughout the season.

At Sonrise Christian School, we pride ourselves on providing a well-rounded middle school education that prepares every child for high school, college, and life outside of academia. Students receive instruction in academic subjects and Bible studies, and they also take part in elective classes and field trips that help them develop both socially and spiritually.
Academics
Our middle school curriculum expands on the basic skills and knowledge that students gained in elementary school. Students apply their reading and writing skills to learn grammar, literary analysis, and academic writing. Drawing on math learned in previous grades, students master decimals, proportions, geometry, and eventually algebra. Our social studies curriculum places the focus on American history. Students attend classes in these subjects daily.
Bible Study
Daily Bible study becomes more complex in middle school. Sixth grade students learn about Biblical history and how to defend their faith. In seventh grade, students learn about God and Jesus, and they are encouraged to commit themselves fully to their faith. Eighth graders learn about the “big questions” of religion, like whether or not God exists. Through answering these questions, students develop a deeper understanding of Christianity.
Other Activities
Students also attend elective classes like chapel acting, Spanish, and dance. In addition, we encourage students to take part in our field trips. Sixth graders visit the outdoor education facility at Palomar, where they learn more about God’s wonderful creation. Seventh graders spend time on Catalina Island exploring and learning about nature. Eighth grade students can attend two field trips: a backpacking expedition in the high Sierras, and a trip to the East Coast. Backpacking and spending time in nature teaches survival skills and appreciation of the world God has created, while visiting the East Coast teaches students about American history.
A middle schooler’s time at Sonrise Christian School in Covina is full of exploration and growth, and our curriculum creates young men and women who are ready to become leaders in their communities. To begin the enrollment process for your child, call (626) 593-7491.

Seeing only flat pictures or photographs from a microscope makes it difficult to imagine what a cell really looks like. Three-dimensional (3-D) models help people see the parts of cells better. Students were to make a 3-D model of a plant or animal cell according to the requirements given. All components of the cells were to be edible. When finished being graded, students enjoyed eating their cells and sharing them with other students and teachers!
